Privacy notice
Before you publish: replace the bracketed placeholders below with your real details, and confirm the sub-processor list matches what you actually use. This notice covers the marketing website only — the Helmsman application needs its own notice and, for customer data, a data processing agreement. It's a starting point written in plain English, not legal advice.
Who is responsible for your information
This website is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], [REGISTERED ADDRESS] ("Helmsman", "we"). For UK GDPR purposes we are the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us athello@helmsmanapp.co.uk.
What we collect, and why
If you fill in the waitlist form, we collect the name, email address and, if you give it, the company or vessel name you enter, plus the date you submitted the form and a record of the consent you gave.
We use it for one purpose: to email you about Helmsman — when it is available, when a new guide is published, and occasionally to ask what you need it to do. This runs to a few emails a year, not a regular newsletter. We do not use it for any other marketing, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
Our lawful basis is your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the form. You can withdraw it at any time.
Who else handles it
We use a small number of service providers to run the site. They process your information on our instructions only:
- Netlify — website hosting and form submissions. Submissions are stored in our Netlify account.
- Mailchimp — stores your name, email and company (if given) so we can send you the emails described above, and lets you unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
- GoDaddy — our domain and mailbox provider, used for email sent directly by us (for example, replying to you).
Some of these providers operate outside the UK. Where that happens, transfers rely on the safeguards those providers put in place, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep it
Until you ask us to delete it, or until two years after your last contact with us, whichever comes first. Then we delete it.
Cookies and analytics
This site sets no cookies of its own and uses no advertising or tracking cookies. Our host keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and diagnostics.
[If you later add analytics, say which tool, what it collects, and whether it needs a consent banner. A cookieless, privacy-focused tool avoids the banner; Google Analytics does not.]
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, and object to our using it. You can also withdraw consent at any time. Emailhello@helmsmanapp.co.uk and we'll deal with it within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office atico.org.uk.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use your information we'll update this page and change the date at the top.
